For the longest time, the United States of America, for a country that prides itself as the “freest country on Earth,” has had a dubious relationship with press freedom.
The organization Reporters Without Borders monitors press freedom in countries across the world, as well as keeping a running tally of any and all journalists persecuted for political reasons. Part of that monitoring is keeping a ranking of every country in the world by their press apparatuses. The list is represented here by a map, with the tally on the side of the screen showing how the ranking breaks down.
